MIDNIGHT TREK TO SKANDAGIRI

Skandagiri is one of the first names i had heard, ever since i started to
show any interest in trekking. As it was near to our college(SJCIT,
Chickaballur) and listening to some of my friends sharing their experience.
We decided to go. As we all know
"Dream without a plan is just a wish". So we had a plan to go there last month.
But bcoz of many reasons We couldn't.The only thing i knew was
"Dont kill the dream - execute it". So we all discussed and scheduled
for last week(2010/09/19).Finally the day came.
We were all excited bcoz it was the first time trek for most of us.
We had planned for midnight trek.I was expecting not more
than 12 members to join, but i was surprised to see 22 members

We all left from my friend room(in Chickaballapur) at 12:30 am.
It was dark and we were feeling chill. And we were on our way
to papapgni mutt(3 km from chickaballapur) which is the
starting point to skandagiri trek. After walking about an hour
and fifteen minutes we reached there by 1.45am. It took us few
minutes to relax and fulfill our thirsty. We started trekking
uphill by 2:00am. It was very dark and everyone started it
with full energy. As soon as we started to move forward we
were finding it difficult as we didnt had many torches with us.We had only
5 to 6 torch and we all sharing it and progressing toward hill.It was
just a matter of time before we started feeling the heat, everyone removed
there jackets as we moved further.Every one was tired and we all knew that
"A Champion is someone who gets up, even when he can't".So we decided to
take some rest and proceed. We took five such small breaks. All of us were
inexplicably tired, but still managed to drag on.We continued to move slowly
and it took two hours and fifteen minutes to reach the top.
We reached hill top by 4:15am.On reaching the top,None of us had the energy to
even stand and walk around. we just threw our bags and
sat down to catch our breaths. It was very cold.
And we all started wearing jackets to avoid the chill wind.
There were so many people in the hill top.None of us
were able to bear the cold, so we decided to have a camp fire.
All of us sat around it and was trying to get some heat from
the fire.Slowly the darkness started disappearing. All of us
hoping to see the sunrise. But we were not so lucky with a
lot of cloud and mist covered.we lost our hopes and were busy with getting
ourself heated.Around 6:40am, we heard people shouting, the clouds
started disappearing slowly. we were able to see the clear
blue sky. Finally we all able to catch the sun. This was awesome and worth
all the effort. We were busy in clicking few snaps and everyone was trying
out different attitude poses. After enjoying all these. we decided to descend
before it gets hot.

We started to descend by 7:15am. As the sun was out we were
feeling hot and it was much easier to get down. Many times
we slipped, but managed to keep balance. Took break to have
breakfast. We had carried some bread with us. We were
enjoying while getting down as everyone sharing funny
jokes and reached down by 8:30am.

All of us were damn tired and the only thought we had is to
get back home and jump on the bed. We managed to get "TT" and
came to chickaballapur by 9am.Then
We were glad that our plan worked well and everyone left thanking all
for accompanying such a wonderful trek. Then i went to hotel
along with my friend had some breakfast and left to bangalore
in bus.Reached home by around 1pm.

 "I learned patience, perseverance and
dedication. Now i really know myself and i know my voice.
It's a voice of pain and victory".

This was my first trekking experience. It was good, exciting,
enjoying, learning experience."Memory is the diary that we all
carry about with us". And I hope this will remain
forever with me.

Lets see how many more will be explored in days to come. I just
hope that this will mark for us the beginning of many more treks.
